These safety instructions are for the use of Excellent Systems' plastic modules for floors and ramps. Where the user has wheelchair or walking difficulties over higher steps.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
1. When installing floors or ramps, refer to the instructions provided. These must be followed in full. Otherwise, flooring or ramps must be installed by authorised personnel. Excellent Systems A/S accepts no responsibility for damage caused by incorrect installation. See also EN 12182, including page 21 table 2 regarding distances between e.g. erected ramps and other parts of the building. This distance must be less than 35 mm or more than 100 mm. Ramps and platforms must always be mounted on a firm and level surface in accordance with the above instructions.
2. When installing a ramp, be aware that any slope may cause difficulties for a wheelchair user/walker. All ramps installed must therefore be assessed in relation to the individual user and the local authority regulations, and constructed in such a way that there is a reasonable relationship between the gradient and the physical condition of the user. The individual builder/installer is responsible for providing the ramp with the necessary signage in accordance with local fall prevention regulations. If the required grade cannot be achieved in the space available, possibly with a resting platform, the user must have an assistant available when driving forward on the ramp.
3. During installation of the ramp, loose parts such as screws etc. may be swallowed or otherwise cause damage. These parts should therefore be kept away from children and animals that are unable to look after themselves.
4. Check that the ramp is correctly assembled and mounted before putting it into use, to avoid damage during subsequent use.
5. Depending on your height, the ramp may require a guide edge. A steering edge is used to prevent the wheels of the vehicle from accidentally running over the edge of the ramp, with the associated risk of injury. The height at which a ramp requires a steering edge varies from country to country. See local rules, which must be observed at all times. If a guide edge is required, the edge system supplied by Excellent Systems A/S can be used. The edge system is designed to fit the ramp system and is tested for the purpose.
6. In public spaces and/or where heavy traffic of users on foot and on wheels is expected, it is advantageous to execute the ramp with contrasting colours. The use of a different colour, for example yellow at the bottom and top of the ramp, will make it easier for users to see when they are moving up and down the ramp, which is particularly useful for visually impaired users.
7. The Excellent modules are designed as floor and/or ramp modules and must be used according to the instructions. Any use of the modules not in accordance with the instructions will be considered as misuse/abuse, which is strongly discouraged. Excellent Systems A/S accepts no responsibility if the modules are used incorrectly.
8. The modules are designed exclusively for users on foot, in wheelchairs or users of walkers. The modules have a load capacity of 800 kN/m2.
9. The floor and/or ramp modules are supplied with surface holes as standard. Their purpose is to remove as much water, dust and soil as possible. At the same time, the holes help to distribute friction and reduce acoustic noise. The holes are square and measure 11 x 11 mm. Attention should therefore be drawn to the possibility of young children in particular sticking their fingers into the holes, with the associated risk of fingers becoming stuck. Small children should therefore not be left unattended on the floor/ramp. If a child is placed on the floor, a blanket or similar surface is recommended. The carpet should cover an area larger than the child's immediate reach.
10. In areas frequented by people wearing stilettos or other pointed footwear, Excellent type tiles/ramps WITHOUT holes should be used. These modules may be of a different colour so that their location is clearly indicated.
11. Regular maintenance, including cleaning and checking that the installation remains intact, is essential if the qualities of the floor/ramps are to be preserved.
12. The modules of floors and ramps used indoors should be vacuumed and washed at appropriate intervals. The floor/ramp should also be lifted for cleaning underneath when necessary. If the modules accidentally become soiled with "body fluids" such as diarrhea, they should be disinfected. The modules can be disinfected with all known detergents. They can also be autoclaved. The frequency and extent of cleaning shall be agreed with the supervising doctor.
13. Modules in use outdoors can also be cleaned with all known cleaning agents and by high-pressure cleaning if necessary. The frequency and extent of cleaning shall be agreed with the supervising doctor. In areas exposed to frost, the risk of icing should be noted. As ice reduces friction, it is important that the modules are cleaned, possibly by pressure washing or other heat application, and then sanded or salted. Refer to local authority guidelines. Ramp owner is responsible for continually assessing the usability of the ramp due to weather conditions and drawing attention to reduced usability/risk of falling by signage as required or alternatively temporarily suspending use of the ramp.
